Introduction

Tin Hau, also called Mazu, is believed to be  the daughter of Lin in Putian, Fujian around 960 CE (during the early Northern Song Dynasty). There are many legends about her and the sea. One of them said that Tin Hau had been a devoted vegetarian in her childhood. And some said that she has been guarding the sea after her had ascended to heaven and become immortal. Thus many titles were bestowed upon her such as "Tin Hau" (lit. Heavenly Queen) and "Heavenly Holy Mother".
