Cangjie

Introduction

Cangjie,  whose surname was originally Houkang, was born in Baishui, Shaanxi Province (some said he was born in Linfen, Shanxi Province), and died when he was 110 years old. Cang was a historiographer of Yellow Emperor. Besides,  a creator of Chinese original hieroglyphic,   he was also one of the creators of ancient China official system and surname system. He is a legendary figure who observed  the sky and investigated everything on the earth to produce for the first time the  book of text "Niaojishu"  that shocked people with the world unseen. Thus people called him the ancestor of humanities, and Yellow Emperor  bestowed on him a surname "Cang" , which literally means firmament. In addition, it is said Cangjie‘s invention of characters had emotionally moved the Jade Emperor in the Heaven who therefore favored the beings with a millet rain and that has become the 6th solar term "Grain Rain". After Cangjie had died, people hasd built a temple near his grave and renamed the place as "Historiographer Village".
