I Leng, commonly known as Wu Ben or Baoshengdadi (literally means the Great Emperor of Health), was born on 15th , month of March in lunar Calendar, 979 AD in Quanzhou, Fujian in Song Dynasty. Among his superior talents and knowledge such as Astronomy, Geography, Rite, Music, Law and Politics, he was the second medical expert to none, due to his unique and penetrating understanding in medicine. It is believed that he had once met the Queen Mother of the West at the age of 17 in Kunlun Mountain, who taught him the receipt of medical treatments and the magic art of suppressing demons and evils . Another saying is he met the Queen Mother of the West in the dream, and she gave him a book and taught him the magic art; then he soon found himself holding a book when he woke up. And after he had work hard on the Imperial Examination, he became an Imperial Censor and healed people with his excellent medical skills. I Leng had recruited many disciples who served medical apprenticeship. His title "Baoshengdadi" came from his story of healing the Empress Xiaocigao (the wife of the first Emperor of Ming called Hungwu). At that time, the Emperor Hungwu had recruited many famous doctors to heal the breast illness of his wife but all of them failed to do that ; and I Leng was the last one who could stand all Hung’s tests and finally saved the Empress. He had addressed himself a Taoist priest "Baohengdadi" before he flew away with a white crane, therefore Hung conferred him a title of his self-addressed name "Baoshengdadi". After his successful achievement in Taoism, he rode on a crane and became immortal at the age of 58.
