Maitreya

Introduction

Maitreya  means “great benevolence”in Sanskrit. As one of the eight supreme bodhisattvas, Maitreya is always called Bodhidharma in Mahayana Buddhism. And  being foretold as the future Buddha, he is entitled “Maitreya Buddha”. And in Yogachara Buddhism, which had been carried forward by two Indian Buddhist monks Asanga and Vasubandhu, he was worshipped  as  the earliest ancestor of Buddha. Two Chinese Buddhist Masters Dao An and Xuanzang has also praised him  in high esteem.
