Ji Gong (1130 -1209), formerly known as Li Xiu Yuan, was an eminent monk in Southern Song Dynasty. With broken hat, torn fan, ragged shoes and dirty clothing, he looked like a mad tramp. He became a monk in the Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, and later lived in Jingci Temple. Without being bound by precept, he loved wine and meat and people considered him insane. But in fact, he was an eminent monk with profound erudition and medical skills that had healed many incurable diseases. He used to fight for justice and clam people’s mind. And his various virtues of saving the poor, exterminating the rascals, praising good deeds and punishing evil, etc. left a unique and positive impression in people‘s mind.
