Lo Pan, also known as Gongshu (last name) Ban (first name), Kungshu Pen and Kungshu Pun, was born in Shandong in 507BC and died in 444BC. As "pan" and "ban" have the same pronunciation in ancient Chinese, Lo Pan is also commonly known as Lu Ban. He was born in a carpenter family and he acquired most of the skills in productive labor. And his extensive practical experience led him to be a very successful inventor. Over the past two-thousand years, his name and his life have been recorded in different literatures. And he is dubbed as the artisan ancestor in Chinese construction industry.
