Kam Fa Temple (Coloane)

Introduction

Kam Fa Temple (Coloane) was also called Sam Seng Temple to honor the Heavenly Empress Kam Fa, Kun Iam and Va Kuong.

More than two hundred years ago, the fishermen had brought the statue of Kam Fa to Coloane and honored it in the Temple. It was believed that the Goddess Kam Fa would send children to families and thus attracts many people to go to the Temple and prayed for children.

There is a couplet at the front gate of the Temple of Kam Fa, in which the word "Salty Bay" is mentioned - "Salty Bay was once the name of Coloane.

During the years of 1988 and 2002, the Temple has been renovated for three times. The first renovation was in 1988. Later in 1992, the temple was damaged by white ants and so the second renovation was carried out. In 2002, the temple was destroyed by strong winds and rain and so the Cultural Bureau urged the SAR government to renovate the temple.
